Title:Principal of Manaret Heliopolis International School
Welcome current and potential members of the MHIS Community,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to our school online hub for our 5th year in operation. This is a particularly special year for me because it is the first out of the many I look forward to sharing with you as part of the MHIS community.
The unprecedented interruptions COVID-19 has brought to the world, and education in particular, continue to be a great challenge for all of us. Yet, I am very proud to say, our community has continued to thrive and grow in spite of these critical challenges.  The sign of a healthy community is one which can come together in mutual support during times of crisis: I am proud to be part of the MHIS community because we continue to come together every day to work towards delivering outstanding education for our students.

Our outstanding community is supported in this mission by world-class human and technological resources, as well as a beautiful campus. Our teaching staff are truly inspiring; despite the risks and challenges they face every day they are unfailing in their duty to our students and dedicate themselves to the learning of every student who enters our doors.  Our technological resources – app-based learning platforms meant to strengthen the home-to-school connection – offer our community the tools needed to ensure that parents are kept up to date and supported in their child’s learning.  Our campus is colorful, warm, and inviting, reminding our students that it is their home-away-from-home; a place where they are welcome, loved, and safe to learn.
Our school’s growth continues with the major milestone of this year adding a Diploma Program.  This will complete our claim of being one of only a small handful of schools in Egypt which offer the true IB continuum: from their first to last years in school, MHIS students will be able to benefit from all of the best that the IB system has to offer.  We have expanded into a wealth of new internal programs as well, opening a Special Education Needs department which is already showing outstanding results in support of our inclusive learning policy.
As part of our STEM development initiative, we have also begun offering coding as an integrated part of our curriculum, which will help all of our students develop the essential skills needed to succeed in their technologically-centered future. We are proud to note that this approach also keeps us at the forefront of STEM education in Egypt.
Furthermore, our school has balanced its forward-looking program development with an insistence on the quality of our Arabic language program.  This year, we won a prestigious award given to only five schools in all of Egypt for the outstanding quality of our Arabic reading program.  As part of the award, we received a generous grant which we will be applying to our existing charitable and community service programing in support of literacy for local orphanages and less-privileged schools.  We have already begun building a library in a nearby orphanage and the community projects work of the MYP has ensured that it will be well stocked with an outstanding range of Arabic-language texts to support literacy in our community.
I could go on for much longer than I should in a letter this size about how proud I am of our exceptional community.  However, for the sake of brevity, I will leave off on the note of pride.  I am proud to be a part of the MHIS community.  I am proud that my children go to school at MHIS.  I am proud of the teachers who I see giving their passion and dedication to their students.  I am proud of our students, who push themselves to new and greater heights with each passing day. I am proud of our parents, who remain active, valued participants in the day-to-day success of our school.
Thank you for your support in preparing our students “For Tomorrow’s Adventures!”

Yours in Education,
Michael Lethem
