How to Prepare Yourself for the SAT

It is that time of year again, time to prepare for your upcoming Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The preparation part is always easy however, the studying and learning is the tough part. It is recommended by the College Board and the Khan Academy that you should start preparing and study for your SAT at least 3 months ahead of the scheduled date. 


If you want to get a high score on your SAT, which of course you do; preparation can be one of the major keys in order to make that happen. To prepare is not to just study the material given, but to have an outline or schedule on how you will manage your time. You must be able to have an outlook on the different ways you will prepare your time.


Here are some helpful ways and tips on how you can prepare yourself for the SAT… 



  1. Take SAT prep courses

One of the most important ways to get prepared for your SAT is to take SAT preparation courses. There are some of the best SAT prep courses for anyone to take. There are always courses provided online and offline if you prefer one on one or face to face tutoring. Taking preparation courses will lead you to have a higher change of getting a higher score on your exam. You can take offline courses as well if they are offered in your district. Tutoring courses are the exact same concept as the SAT prep courses. The advantage of a one on one tutoring class is that you are able to get the extra help you need. 



  1. Understand the test and its content

Various aspects of your intelligence and abilities are checked in the different parts of the SAT. In addition, the SAT has a distinctive style of asking questions with which you may want to become closely acquainted. Therefore, each segment has its own separate collection of question types and formats you will face on the day of the exam. The sections for Math, Reading, and Writing are all different. When you are familiar with the instructions for each section, you will find yourself not wasting any time during the test trying to understand.  



  1. Practice answering SAT both online and on paper 

It is essential to practice answering mock exams of the SAT to be able to get comfortable with the format of the test. Try to take at least two fully-timed practice tests. It is recommended to practice answering on paper because that is how you will be taking the test. It is a 3 hour long test but answering a full one, once while you are in the beginning of your preparation process and once at the end of your process. That way you can time yourself, evaluate yourself, and know your strengths and weaknesses.

Yes, take a break! This might be a tough one for all you anxious hard workers but this is to help your mind not explode and feel relaxed before taking the SAT. The night before an exam, one of the most crucial matters is to get a good night's sleep so that your brain can remember what you've learned. At a set time, make sure you go to bed so you can wake up feeling refreshed and well-rested on the test day. You have been working so hard for such a long time, make all of that hard work count and allow yourself to feel that you are ready.
