Primary Years Programme

Fees:

The PYP marks the start of a lifelong journey. It develops caring and culturally aware children to become active participants in their own learning
www.ibo.org

AIA School is a candidate school* for the PYP. This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. IB World Schools share a common philosophy- a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education- that we believe is important for our students. * Only schools authorized by the IB Organization can offer any of its four academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), the Diploma Programme (DP), or the Career-related Programme (CP). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.

Inquiry-Based approach

The purpose of an integrated curriculum is to benefit the development of the “whole student” and to extend the ways the brain naturally strives to make purposeful connections between learning in various disciplines.
More than twenty (20) years of brain research concludes that the brain is wired for relevance and personal meaning. The PYP provides for this through the intellectually challenging and globally relevant “Transdisciplinary Themes” (PYP) and “Interdisciplinary Studies” (MYP).

Transdisciplinary Themes:

These themes represent “life-long inquiries” and each PYP grade revisits elements of these Transdisciplinary Themes throughout their years through age appropriate “Units of Inquiry”. Together these form the basis for globally and individually contextualised learning, and we represent that in what we call our school’s IB PYP Programmes of Inquiry.
The school’s Programmes of Inquiry incorporates the entire IB PYP Science and Social Studies curriculum and much of the Personal, Social and Physical Education (PSPE) programme.
Language, Mathematics, Physical Education, Additional Languages, PSPE and the Arts and (Music, Visual Art and Drama), are integrated purposefully to allow for connection and application in meaningful contexts. However the curriculum also allows for independent or “stand-alone” lessons in these areas.

Diploma Programme

Fees:

High School (G10-G12)
A future-ready programme that builds students’ inquiring mindset, fosters their desire to learn, and prepares them to excel at their careers and lead meaningful lives.

The Diploma Program is a rigorous pre-university course of study designed for students in high school. It is a broad-based two-year course that aims to encourage students to be knowledgeable and inquiring, but also caring and compassionate.
This leads to final examinations at the end of the course and a qualification that is welcomed by leading universities around the world.

French Immersion At AIA

Fees:

French Immersion at AIA
In an attempt to develop internationally-minded young people, it is important to encourage students to be fluent in at least two languages. At AIA, most of our students are at least bi-lingual. Although, we are essentially an English-speaking school, the primary years at AIA is divided into two sections; the French Immersion and the English.   In the English section the language of instruction is English apart from the Arabic lessons and the French as an additional language (FAL) lessons. For students wishing to grow with a strong foundation in French, they would join the French Immersion section where they will be taught in French apart from the Arabic and English as an additional language (EAL) lessons. In middle years, all children are taught all lessons in English apart from French Acquisition (equivalent to FAL in Primary years) and Arabic. English is expected to be the medium of communication by children throughout middle years. All middle years’ students study English Language and Literature and French Acquisition. For those that passed through the French Immersion course in primary years, it may be that they will also be able to study the Language and Literature course for French as well as English.
