The German Schools of the Borromean Sisters in Cairo and Alexandria are part of the German cultural and educational policy of the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. As encounter schools, the schools lead to bicultural degrees.
Their work is based on the tradition of the Borromean women, as described in Article 139 of the Constitution of the Sisters: "Their work extends to all people regardless of race, class or religion."
We, the German School of the Borromean Sisters Cairo, receive the decisive influence as a girls' school from our school sponsor, the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy of Saint Charles Borromeo.
The DSB Cairo is an encounter school where teachers, parents, and students from different cultures, Western-European and Oriental-Egyptian, different languages and religions, Muslim and Christian, come together. Through this unique way of meeting, our understanding for one another and for our cultures and traditions, mutual respect, and acceptance is promoted; this is how we counteract prejudice and misjudgments and prevent conflicts. Education to be open to the world, tolerance and mutual respect is our most important goal.
Through the sense of responsibility acquired at our school, the ability to constructively criticize as well as the education for independence, we support the development of the students into democratic, responsible citizens who respect the human dignity of all and reflect responsible handling of creation and the limited resources of the earth.
German is the language of instruction and school and the German Abitur is an educational goal. With the teaching of the German language, the students are also introduced to German culture as part of European culture. The promotion and mastery of the mother tongue and two other foreign languages, English and French, are part of our educational offer. Lessons are the focus at our school. Classes in all-girls classes enable targeted gender-specific support in preparation for the future academic training of our female students.
Discipline, order, performance, but also and enjoyment of learning are a natural part and expression of our educational goals. Empathy and communication skills, as well as creativity, are continuously promoted within the school and through extracurricular events.
