Our aim at IBSA is to use our educational knowledge to create a positive learning environment and build relationships which support, enhance, and invite a child’s curiosity, confidence, and individual competencies to flourish We know that for young children, play is an integral part of learning and this is at the heart of our early year’s curriculum. We believe that the correct mix of adult-directed, and uninterrupted child-initiated play ensures the best outcomes for children. By ensuring a stimulating environment, we can create exciting opportunities, that promote challenge, exploration, and adventure so that all children develop physically, verbally, cognitively, and emotionally. We understand that warm and positive relationships between staff and children, consistent routines and strong relationships with parents are vital to a child’s success which is why we work collaboratively with parents and carers to encourage children to become independent, enthusiastic learners. Have a look at some of the key areas of learning.

Lower primary (Years 1 to 3) Our students are the future. It is our aim to nurture their personal and academic process of growth. In our department children are exposed to reflecting on their learning, behaviour, and actions by analysing and being able to learn from mistakes. Fostering the awareness of self and others develops a child’s confidence in own capabilities and independence driven by self-satisfaction and taking pride in the smallest achievements. We help to shape their personalities by applying a positive discipline approach where “Sorry” is not a word but an action. We promote resilience, enquiry, curiosity, and empathy. Achieving educational goals outlined in the school’s curriculum is the main path of learning which includes facing and overcoming challenges through group, peer-to-peer and individual approaches. Teachers carefully tailor lessons to the needs of students, based on accurate assessments and observations with a focus on continued support and intervention. We thrive to shape our children into well-rounded, confident, and happy individuals with the abilities to think critically and act wisely.

Upper primary (Years 4 to 6) When children enter Key Stage 2, they enter a world of possibilities.  They can discover, explore, create, and learn across a wide range of subjects. The journey from Year 4 to Year 6 at the IBSA enables children to unlock the potential mathematician, scientist, historian, author, musician, or artist that they may become.  They will travel in time leaning from past civilisations. They will journey across the globe exploring rivers, reading maps, and understanding different cultures. The Key Stage 2 curriculum offers a range of specialised areas of study following the English National Curriculum, supported by the unique and cultural aspects required by the Ministry of Education here in Egypt.  The emphasis is always on active learning through scientific experiments, mathematical investigations, and performances.  English skills are developed through, shared reading a wide range of texts type as well as discussion, role-play, and debates.   Education at the International British School of Alexandria is not just about developing academic ability, pupils are encouraged to strengthen their interpersonal skills and become excellent team players and strengthen their interpersonal through our comprehensive sports programme. Our programs ensure that children are actively involved in understanding their place in the world and the roles and responsibilities that brings. This promotes a culture of collaborative learning, tolerance, respect, and integrity.

Lower secondary (Years 7 to 9) Key stage 3 is a time in school when most students undergo adolescence. Adolescence is the transition period between childhood and adulthood. Changes to the body, and to the way a young person relates to the world means that it can be a time of stress for students and parents since the physical, sexual, cognitive, social, and emotional changes that happen during this time can bring anxiety for both children and their families. By supporting young people and informing them what to expect school and parents can promote healthy development throughout this period and into early adulthood. It is vital that a strong school parent partnership is developed to ensure that the students get the best out of this stage of their education. This is why Key stage 3 is when the students need extra support both academically and pastorally.
