Early Years Foundation Stage at Sahara International School follows the UK National Curriculum Framework, which believes that EVERY child deserves the best possible start in life and the support that enables them to fulfill their potential. Children develop quickly in the early years and a child’s experiences between birth and the age of five have a major impact on their future life chances. A secure, safe and happy childhood is important in its’ own right. Good parenting and high quality early learning together provide the foundation children need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow up. At Sahara International School, we care to implement the four guiding principles that should shape practice in early years’ settings. These are: • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships. • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers. • Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years’ provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities. EYFS curriculum at Sahara International School covers Literacy, Numeracy, Understanding the World, French and Arabic. In addition to other activities that are necessary to their development as Art & Design, Physical Development, ICT, Music and Character Building. As well, based on Sahara’s vision, teachers at Sahara International School get professional training about Child’s psychology and classroom positive discipline periodically. They believe that kids perform better when they feel better.
Our academic curriculum is based on the Cambridge framework, which has its roots in the British National System of education. The Primary Checkpoint for stages one to six covers the core subjects of English, Math and Science. Additionally, the school has introduced a fourth subject – French – which together with the other three subjects form the final grade. Our students develop essential skills in literacy, numeracy and scientific enquiry while covering a good knowledge base. Our teachers who have been trained by both Cambridge and the publishers providing the academic books as approved by Cambridge have adopted a number of teaching methods to deliver the skills and knowledge as outlined in the framework. Among these methods are: group work, teacher led learning, exercises from workbooks and worksheets, individual work, visits and field trips, games and imaginative play, practical work and information technology integrated techniques. The testing system is based on a wide range of progression tests aiming to monitor the progress of our children towards the end of the primary stage. At this point they sit of a Cambridge Primary Checkpoint Achievement test conducted and marked by the Cambridge International Examinations Board. Such tests provide the students with a benchmark on their performance in the following stage, namely Checkpoint (Years 7 and 8).
Our secondary curriculum known as IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) spreading over years 10, 11 and 12 has been supplied by both Cambridge and Edexcel reference to the school's accreditation. Our students who have progressed from Checkpoint stage, ending with a Checkpoint Achievement Test, to the upper secondary level are enrolled in classes according to their preferences, skills and desires for university education. The students study a number of OL, AS and A level subjects covering the requirements for university admission and sit for the respective Cambridge and/or Edexcel examinations. Our IGCSE instructors are acclaimed university lecturers and professors, ones of the best known/experienced professors in Egypt. Graduates of our IGCSE Department have become reputed specialists in the fields of Medicine, Engineering and Business.
