In 1998, Prof. Dr. Gamal Nawara was finally able to realize his long-cherished wish to found a German school. He, who had spent many years of his life as a student, but also later with his family in Germany, wanted to create a small piece of Germany in Egypt and at the same time offer children in this country the opportunity to take a German Abitur without having to leave their home country and the family.
For this goal, he took on the financial burdens, the high entrepreneurial risk and the many additional work that was associated with it. Personally, he is pleased that his grandchildren are now also attending school.
His most important goal, however, was to give all parents who feel in some way connected to the German language, German culture or German school education the opportunity to offer their children the same chance that they themselves might have once had by living in Germany or going to a German school. Even if the children do not speak any German, they can gradually learn the language starting with the kindergarten and at the latest in primary school they can easily talk to it and follow the lessons.
More than ten years later
Today, after more than ten years, it has been shown that it was good to take the risk, because the school now has an excellent reputation and is constantly expanding. Meanwhile, there are all 12 grade levels, accordingly, a whole series of students have already successfully passed the Abitur at the ESK and more and more parallel classes are being created, which form a broad foundation.
Therefore, it was very forward-looking to acquire a plot of land when founding the school, which is about three times larger than the currently built area, so that further expansion possibilities are given. In the school year 2008/2009, a new grammar school building will be added to the existing buildings (kindergarten, schoolhouse, sports facilities). In addition, another school building for the upper school, a new sports hall and a swimming pool for physical education are to be built.
